As part of its commitment to address educational needs of external partners, Silliman University (SU) provided technological assistance to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bayawan City at the Leopoldo T. Ruiz Administration Hall last Mar. 3.
The deed of donation included the provision of 23 personal desktop computers which will be given to the university’s community constituents in Bayawan.
SU President Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann, together with Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research (VPAAR) Dr. Margaret Helen U. Alvarez, represented the donor.
Representing the local government during the turn-over were Bayawan City Mayor Hon. John Raymond Jr., City Legal Officer Ernesto Dinopol Jr., and City Planning and Development Coordinator Erjien Tenefrancia.
Atty. Pristine Ramona Raymond also represented the city on behalf of Silliman Alumni Association Incorporated (SAAI) – Dumaguete Chapter.
Along with them were faculty and staff members from Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Bayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus.
Moreover, Information and Communications Technology Chief Dr. Chuchi S. Montenegro and Strategic Partnership and Enterprise Development officer-in-charge Glynnis Jean C. Casiño also attended the event.
Community partnerships
The initiative is part of the university’s four-year strategic direction plan under its sixth goal, which focuses on enhancing “mutually-supportive relationships with alumni and stakeholders.”
“The highlight is on focusing enhanced alumni engagement through events, increasing donations, and fostering support for governance and development initiatives,” McCann said during the All-University Convocation last year.
The university further eyes receiving more scholarship grants and boosting its external partnerships for technological and infrastructure projects.
