The Committee Of Aging Student Executives (COAST) Partylist is once again campaigning on an environmental platform, promising a greener and more sustainable Samukan University (SU) by 2026.
On its Reddith page, COAST announced a new campus-wide cleanliness initiative, starting with their mission to stop students from leaving their trash at Nining’s after eating.
“Sustainability begins with personal responsibility,” a COAST running representative stated while pointing at an abandoned soft drink cup. “If you can carry it full, you can carry it empty.”
The party also pledged to reduce campus energy use by turning off half the hallway lights during night time.
“This will help lower electricity costs and provide much-needed privacy for the ghosts roaming the halls,” a party member shared.
However, a student-user expressed that though the initiative will contribute to energy-use reduction, it will hinder them from searching for ghosts around the campus.
More policy changes, more trees
Instead of large-scale reforestation, COAST has vowed to plant one acacia tree every time the Samukan’s administration changes a campus rule or policy without proper student consultation.
“At this rate, we might just reforest the whole university,” quipped Juicewa Lagot, a COAST Party member.
Another notable promise is the party’s commitment to sustainability since SU will have to own a version of Samukan Beach’s bacteria buffet.
With plans to curb campus littering and planting more trees, COAST might prevent SU from becoming the next “great petri dish” of student negligence, a faculty member said.
According to SU Sige’g Email (SUSG) Incumbent Vice-President Lu-kimi Bulalo, Samukanians are now eager to see if their plans will lead to a “greener and more sustainable” campus by next year.
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling about the possible comeback of Students Hoping for Overdue Refunds and Electives (SHORE) Partylist after skipping last year’s elections.
Will they rise with the tide, or will COAST continue to dominate the shores of student governance?
The 2025 SUSG elections are set on Apr. 30, according to the SUSG Commission on Endless Campaigning (COMELEC).
