In memory of their former teammate Melro Teves, the Silliman University College of Engineering and Design (CED) Raptors frisbee team wore jerseys printed with his face during the 2025 All-University Intramurals held last Feb. 23 to Mar. 1.
Teves was a student-athlete of the civil engineering department.
He was also a member of the Negros Flying Disc Association and participated in the sport’s national meets.
According to CED frisbee team captain Eirl Jumalon, the core leaders of their team came up with the idea to remember their friend through their customized jerseys.
“Ang amo idea ana niya kaay naa pud siya’y sikat pud na team sa Manila kay ingana ila ginabuhat sa ilang jersey… kay ila idol nga rakista sa usa ka band namatay,” he said.
(Our idea for that took inspiration from a popular team in Manila where they also made jerseys because their idolized rockstar from one band died.)
Jumalon shared that they adopted this form of commemoration because of Teves’ personality.
“Giganahan ra pud ang tanan sa among mga kauban kay tungod pud ‘to nga ang personality ni Melro kay open pud siya sa tanan and dali siya amigohon,” he recalled.
(Our other teammates also liked the idea because of Melro’s personality since he was open to everyone and easy to be friends with.)
In solidarity with the team’s gesture, Teves’ family and friends also received their own jerseys.
“Ang iyang family man gali kay gapaapil… kana iyang mga friends outside CED, nagpaabil sab. So happy kaayo sila ba in that way na commemorate namo ang life ni Melro, mahinumduman pinaagi sa jersey ba,” Jumalon shared.
(His family also joined… and his friend outside of CED, they also joined. They were really happy because, in that way, we commemorated Melro’s life through the jerseys.)
Moreover, Jumalon revealed that Teves was also the team’s inspiration in bagging the championship.
“First screening pa lang kay ako jud gipagawas na […] mas mas naa ta’y ikahatag pa tungod kay di empty ang rason na mudula,” he added.
(During the first screening, I already put it out there that […] we have to deliver more since we don’t have an empty reason to play.)
The CED Raptors was hailed as this year’s champion for the ultimate frisbee competition and overall champion of the Intramurals event.
