CAS Blazing Phoenix squeaks past CBA Golden Bees, 3-2

By Alyanna Gabas and Yra Suarin

Riding high on tactical plays, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Blazing Phoenix triumphed the College of Business Administration (CBA) Golden Bees with a score of 3-2 (25-23, 24-26, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13) in the 2025 All-University Intramurals men’s volleyball championship game at the SU Gym, Feb. 28.

The two teams fired up the court when they exchanged thunderous spikes and head-turning digs, stretching each rally to its limit.

Kirksten Alejado set the tone for CAS with back-to-back service aces, delivering powerful serves that pierced through CBA’s defenses and extended their lead early in the match.

However, the Golden Bees refused to back down, halting the Blazing Phoenix’ dominance with strategic attacks and precise ball control to claim the second and third sets.

Unfortunately, the Phoenix roared back tenfold, dominating multiple rallies with unstoppable spikes and precise cross-court free balls to claim a hard-fought 25-23 victory in the fourth set, shutting down the Bees’ hopes of a championship win.

After settling for runner-up finishes in the past two years, the Blazing Phoenix finally broke through this season, claiming the championship title and securing the gold.

“It’s our third attempt vying for the championship and finally we got the gold after bringing two silvers […] It is such a blessing [to grab] such [a] title and we finally got the gold,” Francis Roy Albina, Phoenix’ Most Valuable Player, said.

The Blazing Phoenix are gearing up to defend their championship title in next year’s Intramurals, determined to maintain their dominance in the competition.
